We have been sitting for a long time,
And you look towards the sunshine
With mysterious eyes,
As if you do not understand my cries;
If you do not understand my silence,
How will you understand my words?
I silently speak out my feelings,
But you follow them in a different way;
And I fear,
You misunderstand what I say;
If you do not understand my silence
You will not understand my words!
Understanding silence…that is asking a little too much..:)
Ha..Thats the beauty of it ! …:-) …ask madam, she will agree with me I bet.
Hema,
I do agree with you..
“If you do not understand my silence
You will not understand my words”
That is what makes that person special…..even to interpret silence…
If you love and care enough then only that possible.
Yeah..it sounds a bit strange..but true, isnt it? Glad you agree.
Thanks for stopping by Rashmi.
Wow – deeply philosophical poem. I shall henceforth try to understand your silence (in the blogosphere, I mean) 🙂 🙂
Ha ha….thank you for understanding! 🙂 🙂
Silence like “zero” has a tremendous amount of value. a very good question, well put.
Hi ZQ, thanks for dropping by.
A couple’s ability to find a safe and affirming space in silence is a gift of trust and peace
Yes, it could be between any two individuals…

How true this is, if words have power, how much more there is with silence! Perceptive, loved it.
Hi Tally, glad you like it 🙂
Oh, how I know this feeling, Hema. Sometimes we say more with our silence than we can ever say with words. I’ve learned it is better to speak–to get it out and deal with it.
Very nice write. very deep and full of emotion and meaning.
Thanks Charles. Yes, both silence and speaking out have their own flavours and need to be used very appropriately!
Hema, this is a beautiful poem. It best reveals a woman’s heart… 🙂
Hi, Thanks Bijaylaxmi..yes, it does..:-)
